Warp 9 Travel?
Many people believe that warp 9, warp core or warp factor are fictional references that only belong in Star Trek or the like. But in reality is travelling at warp 9 or any warp speed a possibility? Well lets take a look shall we.
How Fast Is Warp 9?
To answer this we need to understand how warp speeds are calculated, and what is warp speed 1?
Warp speeds are measured in factors and start at a warp factor 1, which is the equivalent of travelling the speed of light ( 299 792 458 miles per second ). At a warp factor of 9 you would be travelling at 729 times the speed of light. Take a look at all the warp core speeds below;

Can We Build A Warp Core?
In theory yes it's possible to build a warp core, but our technology is a long way off. You see a warp core is a reactor that contains the energy displaced by forcing matter and anti-matter to collide. Considering that scientists believe that if ever matter and anti-matter collide that the effect would be on a universal scale. Such would be the energy.
What would happen is open to speculation, but I believe the universe would simply blink out of existence.
Maybe sometime in the future if the human race survives, we will gain the knowledge of the universe and be able to travel between stars has easy has airoplanes travel between airports, and buses between stops. But we would still need to find a way of containing the reaction of these two opposing matters.
What's A Warp Field?
A warp field is a bubble of normal space that you trap around your ship. This allows the ship to stay stable in space while travelling at light speed. Otherwise the ship would simply disintegrate, this is caused by the slightest of friction at such speeds. So you would need a warp field to be able to travel at such speeds.
Maybe a warp field is also the answer for containing the reaction between matter and anti-matter. It may simply get deflected back within the field in much the same way has magnets work.
